Embracing Change

Updated: Jan 25, 2021

Change is inevitable. We cannot escape it, we can only learn how to accept it and learn to understand that it is not a bad thing. Change however, is a mental hurdle that we need to shift our perspective on over time in order to overcome. But sometimes it can be hard to know when it’s time to accept it. We can feel stuck, scared or overwhelmed by the situation it can cause us to worry over whether it really is time or even necessary to make a change.

To help you embrace change in any given situation we thought we would outline the What, When and How for the need to make a change, once we can understand, and identify the influencing patterns of decision making and interaction, we can take informed actions to respond to our changing world.

What is Change

How we think and view the world affects the story that will be told about our life. Our story is composed of elements that can lead to the acceptance of change which creates lasting changes in how we live our life.

"Change implies making either an essential difference often amounting to a loss of original identity or a substitution of one thing for another."

When to Know its Time to Accept Change

When we dwell heavily in the past to escape present changes it is a sure sign that we need to make a change. If we don’t take the steps we need to mentally overcome our present mindset it can eventually cause strain on relations and on the quality of our life. All we have is the present. The past and the future exist only in our head. The present is here right now, one needs to make a change and finally begin to enjoy the world we are living in now.

How to Embrace Change

If you want to learn how to change your mindset to embrace change, then you need to learn how to change your story. We can can train our brain to get better at handling change with one simple mental exercise, that will force a mindset shift.

This method is by creating a daily practice of noticing three things associated to the change every day that have had a positive effect on people. By making the effort to recognise the positive effects of change, you will be retraining your brain to see change as an opportunity for growth.

"We see the first woman in American history elected to the national office, Vice President Kamala Harris. Don't tell me things can't change." – Biden

The beautiful thing about change is that it is possible and we can all adjust by accepting it. We can change any situation. Change is always just one decision away, grab a coffee and smile your way through it!
