How Other Peoples Attitude and Behaviours Can Influence You

People are one of the most important influential aspects of an individuals life. The people you surround yourself with have an impact on your behaviour and your attitude, which results on who you become. Who you have around you has an impact on what you think, say and do; which sets the course of your life. Take a read below and become aware of other people’s attitude and behaviours can rub off on you.

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” - Jim Rohn

What is Attitude and Behaviour

Attitude defines your personality it’s the feelings, beliefs and opinion of approval or disapproval towards things. Attitude is said to naturally fall under two categories, the positive and the negative but there is 2 other categories most people do not look into.

Behavior is determined by internal factors, it is an action or reaction that occurs in response to an event or internal stimuli (i.e., thought). In social psychology people can affect one another’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

“Attitude is a small thing that makes a big difference.” - Winston Churchill

The Four Basic Types of Attitudes and Behaviours

  • Positive Attitude: This refers to how much positive attitude it takes to keep you moving and progressing in life, especially in the work or career area.

  • Negative Attitude: A negative attitude refers to avoidance of the good things in life with constant consideration about failure.

  • Neutral Attitude: A neutral attitude refers to a neutral mindset, one with no doubt or hope. This mindset tends to ignore life's problems waiting for others to take care of them.

  • Sikken Attitude: The sikken attitude destroys every image that comes in connection with a positive image. This type of attitude is more of a negative attitude and is very destructive.

If you are trying to make changes in your life, you need to watch your attitude and the attitude and behaviours of those around you. According to most people, having an energetic and positive mindset combination from those you surround yourself around is one of the best attitudes for a majority of people and this influences the success of making personalised changes.

How People Shape Our Attitude and Behaviour

We are deeply affected by the attitudes and behaviours of those we are surrounded by, their moods and behaviours have an impact on us, which is why it’s so important to surround ourselves with people who are positive and can uplift us. When it comes to attitude and behaviour, we tend to give out what we receive, However, in some cases if you have a healthy attitude surrounding yourself with someone with a negative attitude and behaviours may result in you picking up the same harmful behaviour, which is inturn impacts your life in a negative way.

“I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it.” - Charles R. Swindoll

That 90% is our attitude, if 90% of our life is based off of the way we react to events, circumstances, troubles, and issues, of course it’s an important aspect of our lives, and it makes sense that it would affect those around us.

The people we spend the most time with shape who we are. They determine what conversations dominate our attention. They have an affect on which attitudes and behaviours we are regularly exposed. Eventually we start to think like they think and behave like they behave.

"The people you habitually associate with determine as much as 95 percent of your success or failure in life.” - Dr. David McClelland

Conclusion

While it is clear others can influence our attitude and behaviour, as adults we are responsible for our actions. As we exist in a society we conform to we must appreciate we can influence and be influenced by those around us and as individuals we need to have discernment and be conscious of this at all times.
